Albert Murdoch Daniels was born at Ottawa, Ontario, on 7 June 1885 and enlisted at the age of 16 with the Canadian Mounted Rifles, seeing service in South Africa during the Boer War.
Appointed a Captain in the 97th Regiment at Cobalt, Ontario, on 22 September 1914, he transferred to the 48th Highlanders, and then to the 15th Battalion, Canadian Infantry.

He was killed in action on the Western Front at the First Battle of St. Julien on 24 April 1915; according to an article that appeared in the Ottawa Citizen, he ‘went to his death while bravely leading his men against one of the strongest of the German positions at St. Julien.’

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
