Francis Constantine William Wynter was born at Witney, Oxfordshire, in 1888 and was educated at Harrow and Hertford College, Oxford.
Commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry on 19 May 1911, he became Staff Officer G.S.O.III in the Indian Expeditionary Force, as Censor at Basra, in December 1914, before re-joining his regiment in May 1915.
Promoted Captain on 27 October 1915, he was serving as Battalion Transport Officer when he was instantly killed at Ctesiphon, Mesopotamia on 22 November 1915, while leading his Company against the Turks.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq. He is also commemorated on the War Memorials at Harrow and Hertford College, Oxford,
