Hugh Luck the son of Edward Henry Luck and Mary Ann Luck, was born at Goudhurst, Kent on 11 June 1888, and attested for the Royal Field Artillery.
He served with the 57th Brigade during the Great War on the Western Front from 6 November 1914, and was later attached to 5th Army Brigade Headquarters. He died of pneumonia in France on 26 October 1918, aged 29, and is buried in St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.

His brother Albert Luck also born in Goudhurst, Kent attested for the Middlesex Regiment and served with the 4th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front. He was killed in action at Arras on 28 April 1917, aged 22.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
Both Hugh and Albert are also commemorated on the Goudhurst War Memorial; on two panels in the porch of St. Mary’s Church, Goudhurst; and on a family grave stone in the church graveyard.
