Abraham Steinberg - Pier & Face 2D
Abraham was born in Leeds, one of seven children of Samuel (a boot finisher) and Rebecca Steinberg of 17 Meanwood Street, Leeds. Both his parents had been born in Russia.
He enlisted at Leeds.
Private Abraham Steinberg, 41604, died on 31st August 1917, aged 20, during a German attack to recapture The Knoll, near St. Emilie, Villers Faucon. The enemy captured The Knoll at 4:45 am after an intense trench mortar bombardment. Abraham was one of the 60 other ranks posted as killed or missing from the battalion in addition to the seven officers killed or missing.
