Arthur Samuel James Quick was born in Camberwell, London on 24th January 1898 one of the four children of James William (a wine merchant) and Ellen Hannah Quick. The family later lived at 13 Castle Street, Norwich, Norfolk.
Arthur was initially educated at Banham Grammar School and afterwards at Thetford Grammar School (1909 to 1912). Prior to enlisting on 26th October 1915 , aged just 17 years 9 months at Norwich, he was employed as a clerk.
Arthur went to France on 26th July 1916 and died on 5th October 1916, aged 18, during the attack and capture of the Schwaben Redoubt, a large and heavily fortified German defensive position, or strongpoint, on the Battle of the Somme front located near Thiepval, France.
Private 43707 Arthur Samuel James Quick has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial pier and face 1C.
