Private, 26584, ‘C’ Company, 16th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment).

Harold was born on 5th November 1897 in Leek, Staffordshire, the eldest of at least four children of Harry (a cardboard box cutter) and Gertrude Plant, of 5, Nab Hill Avenue, Leek, Staffordshire. The family also lived at 51 Picton Street, Leek.

He was employed as a lithographer in the textile industry and enlisted at Leek.

Harold Plant died on 3rd September 1916, aged 18, while in the front line of the Beaucourt sector. On the day he died his unit provided carrying parties during an attack on German front line positions.
