HENRY HOUGHTON - Pier & Face 5A

Henry was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, the only child of Henry (a canal boatman) and Hannah Houghton who later lived in Gill Street, Derby.

Henry married Eliza Jane Taylor in 1913. They had at least two children, Hannah E. (born in 1914) and Henry (born in 1915).

Henry was employed as a bargeman for a coal company and he enlisted at Dudley.

Private Henry Houghton, 3842, 1st/7th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment died on 29th May 1916, aged 25, killed by enemy shelling while in trenches in the Hebuterne sector.

After his death Eliza married Walter H. Hughes and lived at 32 Springfield Terrace, Dudley.
