Private, 40661, 16th Battalion, Welsh Regiment.
Joseph was born in Ryton, Co. Durham, a son of John (a coal miner) and Annie Brady of 7, Northumberland Road, Ryton.
He was employed as a hewer at Emma Colliery, Ryton, when he enlisted at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in October 1914 as a private in the Northumberland Fusiliers.
Later he transferred as 9660, Army Cyclists Corp and afterwards to the Welsh Regiment.
Joseph Brady died on 7th July 1916, aged 28, during an assault on Mametz Wood.
He is also commemorated on the war memorials at Ryton and at Emma Colliery.
