Joseph Jones, the son of Elias and Agnes Jones of Colemere St Wrexham, was born in Wrexham about 1891.

He attested at Wrexham for the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry, subsequently transferring to the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and served with the 8th Battalion during the Great War in Mesopotamia.

He died of wounds on 29 April 1918 and has no known grave and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial.

He was Mentioned in Despatches (M.I.D.) published in the London Gazette 21 February 1919 (Mesopotamia).
