Peregrine Fernie Cannon was born 23rd April 1895 in Whitehaven, Cumberland one of the two sons of Captain Peregrine Fisher Cannon (a master mariner) and Lucy Walton Cannon. The family later lived at 69 Mount Road, Birkenhead, Cheshire. He was educated at St. Bee’s School, Cumberland (1904 to 1906) and Birkenhead Institute (1906 to 1911), and was a keen sportsman.
After school he was employed in the Bank of Liverpool, where he was said to have a promising career before him.
Peregrine enlisted in November 1915 and was a qualified machine-gunner. Died on 6th October 1916, aged 21, during an attack on the German 'Bayonet Trench' which was part of the Battle of Transloy Ridges.
Private 19874 Peregrine F Cannon has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial in France.
