Robert Black Beattie was born in Edinburgh on 26th June 1891, one of the eight children of David John (a joiner) and Janet Beattie, of 2, Brand Place, Abbeyhill.
He enlisted at Barry, Forfar and went to the Balkans on 30th June 1915.
Private Robert Beattie, 10409, 12th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers died on 19th June 1916, aged 24, in trenches near Louvencourt.
