Robert was born in New York, USA, one of at least two children of James Morris who later lived at 21 Taylor Street, Clydebank, Glasgow. There were also at least two half-siblings from Thomas's second marriage to Margaret Meldrum Morris.
He was employed as an electrician when he enlisted at Clydebank on 26th October 1914 as 47687, Royal Garrison Artillery.
He was classified as a 1st class gunner on 3rd February 1915 but transferred to 3rd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment on 10th June 1915.
From November 1915 to August 1916 he was employed on munitions work with the firm of John Brown & Co., Clydebank and then returned to the 3rd Bedfords.
He went to France on 25th September 1916 and joined the 107th Company, MGC in the field on 2nd October.
Private Robert Morris, 53666, 107th Company, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) died on 6th June 1917, aged 21, whilst in the Spanbroek sector, Belgium.
On the day, he died he had been treated at 108th Field Ambulance for shrapnel wounds to his back and legs.
