William James Edwards, the son of George and Jane Edwards, was born about 1887 in Liverpool and attested there for the Scots Guards on 1 December 1915, having previously served for four years with the 2nd Liverpool Volunteer Artillery.

He was mobilised for active service on 30 September 1916 with 1st Battalion and was killed in action on the Western Front on 30 July 1917, aged 31.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
