Rifleman, 5893, 1st/16th Battalion, London Regiment (Queen's Westminster Rifles).
Charles was born in Islington, the eldest of at least three children of Charles Cheeseman Allen (a pawnbroker’s manager) and Ada Annie Allen who later lived at 95 Aden Grove, Stoke Newington, London.
He was educated at Hackney Downs School (1908 to 1912) where he achieved honours in the London junior school examination in 1912.
Later he was employed in the Shipping Editor's branch of Lloyd's of London.
He enlisted at Hackney.
Charles Allen died on 10th September 1916, aged 19, during fighting at Leuze Wood.
He is also commemorated on the roll of honour at Hackney Downs School (formerly Grocers' Company School) and the Lloyd’s of London War Memorial.
