Second Lieutenant, 7th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment.
Stanley was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire on 4th January 1890, the third of the four sons of George Calvin Shankster (district manager for the Royal Liver Friendly Society) and Eliza Ann Shankster, of Liverpool House, Dudley Street, Grimsby.
He was educated at St James' Choir School, Grimsby and prior to the war was employed as an assistant manager of the Royal Liver Friendly Society.
After the outbreak of war he joined the 10th Lincolnshire Regiment on 17th September 1914, obtaining a commission on 9th April 1915. He went to France on 4th August.
Stanley Shankster died on 3rd July 1916, aged 26, during an attack towards Fricourt.
His brother, Lieutenant George Shankster, 6th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment died on 9th October 1916, aged 23.
He is commemorated on Pier & Face 11A.
